| Far far away, behind the word mountains |
Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. |

We are a small group who have been involved in technology for most of our adult lives. We have all done work in Silicon Valley in the semiconductor industry, computer hardware, and the software industry.
All of us grew up being avid Sci-Fi fans. We also came to realize that any dreams we harbored of an active commercialization of space, and true space exploration by humans died with the last landing on the moon.
The realization of the potentials were just not to be. There was neither the political nor economic will to press ahead. To us it is perhaps one of the greatest mistakes ever made by the USA. With each new movie or Sci-fi movie or series we sat around occasionally imagining the opportunities, hopes, and dreams.
One of our group came up with a simple yet amazing idea. Why not take NASA public? The great age of exploration in Europe was the model. Most of that exploration was done by commercial companies with the support of local monarchs but with large sums of money and backing from private parties. Trading companies, and business desires ruled the roost and produced untold sums of wealth.
The argument began to gnaw on all of us. We realized that NASA could raise in excess of $400 Billion in a number of public offerings over a 10-20 year period. With that kind of money, the right leadership, and the scientific talent of NASA great things could happen. The more we talked, the more we realized it won't be easy but it can be done. We only need dedicated people who believe and the willingness to get involved.
If we all give a little time, money, and effort we can achieve a great quest.
So we each donated a $100 and started in October 25, 2007. Some things have been very disappointing but amazingly eye-opening.
We first started to call all the offices of all the Congressman and received heartwarming support from their staff. Many of the staff at each office kept us on the phone talking about the idea and how it was something that really did need to be done. But we got no help or any effort other than lip service from any Congressman. Instead, we kid you not, we were solicited by in excess of 385 offices for donations to their campaigns. After the 385th solicitation, we just stopped counting.
We then thought we could gain support from news reporters and organizations. We called or emailed over 41 major news organizations trying to get support from their reporters and news personalities to see if we can get some publicity and interest. Two picked up the phone and did not think the idea newsworthy and the rest just ignored us.
We even tried to contact leaders in the industry including scientists and well known authors and again, no responses from any of them. We were blown off by the best of them.
However, despite all the gloom and doom, we never gave up and created a one page web site that was truly artistically challenged (it was so bad it had to reach up to touch bottom) and began to send out bumper stickers and talking to just about everyone we interfaced with on a daily basis. We kept talking and talking and talking and doing handouts. Despite all the issues with the establishment, more and more people began to believe just like we do.
By 2010 we have received donations from 4922 people and two corporations and we now have the support we need to redo the website, and begin a grass roots campaign to get the word out and recruit more believers.
We need your help. If you want to become part of something special come join us.
Sincerely
Bob, Ted, Wendy and Dean
